Winter is the slowest season for pool removals, but we still do some. Battling the frozen ground and snow makes it more difficult though, and can prolong the jobs as we work around the weather.
This is an old in-ground liner pool in Milford, CT. The homeowners hadn't used the pool in almost a decade and weren't looking forward to another Spring of incessant frog croaking.
They hired us to demolish and remove the pool which always begins the same way. If there is water we pump it out, then proceed to remove the pool liner, walls, and any other synthetic components. Synthetic components are things like fiberglass steps which cannot be buried.
Occasionally our customers tell us we can bury these items if it saves money. Not only is it illegal to bury such debris, it really doesn't save much for us to remove it properly. For these reasons we never fill the hole with anything but clean soil material.
As you can see in the photos the main machine we use is a medium sized excavator which is just under 20,000 pounds. This is on the larger size of machines used for this type of work but it's a very efficient machine for both digging and removing pools.
The hydraulic thumb works with the bucket to pinch and hold items as we remove them. We use it for taking out light debris like a pool cover, and ripping out entire sections of the pool itself.
Once the debris is removed and it's just an empty hole we begin bringing in clean soil and filling/compacting the area.
This particular project had a stone patio surrounding it. This is usually easy for our machine to remove except for the fact the ground was frozen almost 18" deep. With the stones and frozen dirt abutting their deck we have to wait another week or so for the ground to thaw to safely remove the rest of the patio (it's currently February 24th and finally warming up). I will upload the finished pictures when we have them.
If you are looking to remove your pool simply fill out the quote form and we will reply promptly. With just the address and a few photos we can give you an approximate quote. Pool removal prices typically range $12-20,000.00. Liner pools with easier access are generally cheaper, followed by concrete pools and situations that make machinery access difficult.
